The End of Another Year! - Eirene Ministries Bi-Monthly Report May/June 2010 Education Center

·          In May, we celebrated Mother’s Day with a special program for the mothers in the education center. The students shared a skit, songs, poems and other written pieces with their parents. This was followed by some interactive games done by the teachers and a time of eating together.
·          In June, the students made some special items to give to their fathers for Father’s Day. One of these items was a written favorite memory of their father and the other was a bookmark with their picture on it.
·          The tenth and eleventh (and final) teacher training courses were presented. The last two topics covered were “Quality of Life,” shared by one of the teachers, Horte, and the other topic was, “Motivational Development,” shared by Kati, our first grade teacher.
·          We were blessed by a visit from students and teachers from Heritage Christian School located in Indianapolis, Indiana. They shared time with the students, presented them with new toys for their outdoor play, built a new play gym and built a shed to hold all of the outdoor toys.
·          Kennedy School came again this year to visit and presented the Education center with a gift of $4,200 MN to help buy textbooks and other necessary material for the coming year. They were able to spend some time with the children as well and the history and purpose of the Education center were shared with them.
·          We now have the first set of textbooks for working with the INEA system and we will begin working with two of our students next year. One of the students will be starting the second level (equivalent to fifth grade) and the other will be beginning the third level (sixth grade). Upon completion of the third level, this student will be able to take his exam and receive his diploma.
·          July 8 th was the last day of classes for the students. They and their parents were presented with their final grades and diplomas were presented to the children that graduated from kindergarten into first grade. July 8 th was also the farewell for the children and various games were planned for them and they were able to watch a couple of movies projected for them.
·          The Education center will open again on August 23rd and classes will begin for students on the August 30th.

A New Kitchen!! - Eirene Ministry Foster Home Report May/June 2010

It has been quite busy here these past two months. God has sent much help for construction and we have people scheduled throughout the rest of the summer too.

CONSTRUCTION - This past Saturday our church from Guadalajara, Cristo Redentor, came for a work day. There were over 30 people who came and they finished five projects in six hours! It was great. The front patio was poured, some beams were sanded and painted, sand was put under the swing set, all of the tile was moved to the roof, and the giant basket of mismatched socks got sorted (the job that never ends). They also started sanding the pillars so that they can be sealed and weeded the new vegetable gardens (also a never ending job, especially during this time of year, rainy season). The garden is growing very well.

INTERNS/VOLUNTEERS/VISITORS – Our nine month intern left but she’ll be back! She was a great help with anything and everything. An intern from last year came back for two months! Two ladies came down for a week and did much schoolwork with the big kids and planted our vegetable gardens. We are growing green beans, peas, carrots, sweet corn, cucumbers and squash at home and the fields hold maiz colorado (colored field corn) and regular field corn. During that same week a family from Illinois came too. They helped with lots of smaller projects which is always a huge help! They also sanded, painted and moved the swing set. Which was an incredible accomplishment considering its size! We hosted a team from Pennsylvania who built lower cabinets for the kitchen in four days! It is fabulous to have a place to put things now! They worked from 7 a.m. to midnight. We were kind of tired when they left but it was that great kind of tired. This month a young teacher, from New Jersey, came down to help teach the younger children. They seemed to do very well with her. There was also more help from a team of a father and his two teenage sons from NJ who came down for a week and helped Chuy with construction and farming, which is a never-ending job.

The children are doing very well. They are growing like weeds and doing really well in their schoolwork. It is so great to see them healthy and happy! We are praying for a full time teacher for this upcoming fall as they need structure. If we are blessed with a full time teacher and a helper for other various household duties, taking in more children will be a stronger possibility once the new bedroom is finished.

Celebrating the children Ã¢ÂÂ Eirene Ministries Monthly Report April 2010 Education Center

·          Children’s Day was celebrated during the end of April. The students enjoyed a clown show, various games, as well as, a candy bag and present to take home.

·          The ninth teacher’s class was given on the theme, “The Culture.” This class was given by Ana, our education center secretary.

·          The children have been studying about various important dates that have taken place over the last month. The themes include Labor Day, The Battle of Puebla, Benito Jaurez Birthday, Children’s Day and Mother’s Day. The children now have a better understanding as to the reasons why we celebrate each of the days that we do.

·          To date, the amount of students in the Education center is as follows:

Three Year Olds: 15 Four Year Olds: 10    Kindergarten: 10 First: 8 Second: 4 Fourth: 2         Total: 49

Dental Ministry reaching new communities Ã¢ÂÂ EIRENE MINISTRIES BI-MONTHLY DENTAL REPORT Ã¢ÂÂ MARCH/APRIL 2010

In order to better utilize the opportunities for service with our mobile dental unit and to seek to fulfill our mission statement, starting in March, we have begun to take the dental services to various communities of need. The idea is to provide services in communities where there is no dentist or to persons who otherwise could not afford the service.

During March, I went and worked at a Baptist church called “The Good Shepherd.” This church is located in the community of Santa Margarita in Zapopan. The pastor of the church, Jesús Hernandez, worked alongside of me in lining up patients and taking care of providing for anything I needed while operating the clinic. The clinic was available for anyone in the community and it was open for five days. During these five days, I was able to perform extractions, cleanings, fillings, as well as, other services.

During April, because of the two weeks off from school for Holy Weeks, we did not seek out a community to serve in. The clinic was open for normal service in Santa Ana, but because of vacations, the clinic saw fewer patients.

Eirene Ministry Monthly Report March/April 2010 - Foster Home

Things are really starting to heat up here! Literally. We are now coming into the hottest month of the year. The kids don’t seem to mind much though, they love playing on the new swing set no matter how hot it is outside.

A small but very productive team came down in March for one week. It was a team of only three people but they got the same amount of work done as a normal size team. Due to their hard work, the first story roof is now finished and the floor is poured in the new extended room. Since then Chuy has been working on laying the pipes for the new bathroom, but progress is slow because he is very busy.

Also in March, another volunteer named Arely arrived! She is from our church in Guadalajara and is teaching the older little kids in Spanish from Sunday to Thursday. Her grandparents thought she was coming to live in a convent in the middle of the desert. We actually live in a beautiful valley. And we are not a convent. But that is still what they think. Too funny!

This month we got our first sponsor for the Sponsor a Child program! This program recently started and is set up so that people can send a monthly donation to help one specific child from the Shelter. This donation helps provide their books, food, clothing, shoes, medicine, and whatever else they need. The sponsors receive information on their child and will be updated specifically on their growth and progress. It is very fun for the children as well as their sponsors. If you are interested in being a part of this new program, please contact us. Quite a few sponsors are still needed!

EIRENE MINISTRY MARCH 2010 MONTHLY REPORT EDUCATION CENTER

On March 26th the children presented a program to their parents for Easter. We were blessed with a good showing of parents and family members that attended.

Grades were handed out for the second marking period for the Education center and at the same time meetings were held with the parents to talk about their child’s progress.

A meeting was held with all of the parents to go over certain points with them: how to avoid absences, nutrition in the snacks they send with their children, uniform usage, maintaining consistency in discipline and rules between the school and home and how to play without being violent. The parents were also invited to attend the classes that Eirene is promoting at a local university in English and computation/AUTOCAD.

A contest was held for the children called the “Spring Parade.” The top three contest winners were given a special prize.

A contingency plan has been prepared that will be presented to the teachers of “What to do in case of an emergency?” This information will be presented in the teacher’s meetings and cover earthquakes, fire, epidemics, flooding and other natural disasters that could occur.

The eighth teacher training course was presented with the theme “The Family.” This was presented by Tere, the 4 year old and kindergarten teacher. Plans have begun for the next school year going through where we stand now in regards to teachers, resources, equipment, etc. and where we need to be by fall of 2010.

BI-MONTHLY REPORT JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2010 - DENTAL CLINIC

It has been a wonderful blessing to work with the new dental equipment as it makes providing services much easier and I am able to be more effective and efficient.

Along with the new dental unit, we also have a mobile chair and we are looking forward to serving in various communities in the coming months by bringing the dental care to them. We will be offering help to orphanages, churches, nursing homes and other institutions. These institutions normally need external help to meet their dental needs and those of their communities. Our dental services, both labor and equipment will be offered free of charge. The only minimal cost would be that of material, if needed, that the institution or person would help out with.

In regards to orthodontics, after two long years of school, I have graduated! On February 26 th I received my diploma and am excited to get involved more in offering these services in the community.

Eirene Ministry Monthly Report February 2010 - Foster Home

The main structure of the fence is complete! All that is missing now are the gates. It is made of thousands of rocks from our property and looks great! We were pleased to be able to use the rocks that were here for building! We are really coming along on the extensions of the downstairs bedrooms. They probably would have been done but when the walls were going up, it became clear that there was a perfect, very good sized space to put a bathroom. It will be great to have 3 more sinks, two more toilets a shower and a bathtub (which is in a box on the patio!!).

We are so very grateful to our interns, Lacy and Travis. They work so very hard and really help a lot in all that we do. We could not do this without them! Travis is here for two months and Lacy nine months. They have such a great attitude and are willing to try new things and get their hands dirty. They are part of our family! We always have need of interns so if you are interested, let us know. We would love to have you work here alongside us in our daily lives.

There are many new additions to the family this past month, in animal form. We have four new puppies, two new sheep, four chickens, one rooster and goats on the way! It is the beginning of a project to raise our own food (not the dogs, of course). These animals join our three dogs, two cats, five doves, two parrots and three sheep.

EIRENE MINISTRY FEBRUARY 2010 MONTHLY REPORT EDUCATION CENTER

February is the month where preregistrations are done for families that are interested in having their children in the education center in the coming School year. As of now, there are 14 students registered for the three year old class, 2 for the four year old class, 4 for kindergarten, 5 for first grade, 1 for second grade and 2 for third grade. This would give us 28 students in addition to those that we already have this year. We do have eight students currently attending whose parents have decided not to send them next year. We are excited at the growth that we see!
For Valentine’s Day, children from Cornerstone Academy came and planned some activities for the children in our education center. They also brought along a donation of material for various classes. The children had a great time playing games, listening to a story and partaking of a wonderful snack.
We have begun rehearsals for the program that will be done for parents on March 17.
Two of our teachers are continuing with the process of certification with INEA.
The seventh teacher training course was given this month with the theme “Working in a Team.” Judith, our three year old teacher, taught this month.

EIRENE MINISTRY MONTHLY REPORT JANUARY 2010 - FOSTER HOME

The month of January was full of construction! The fence for the property of the foster home is almost completely finished. This was on the top of the list as the authorities require that we are fenced in. The extension of the roof on the bottom floor is also near completion. Once this is done, we will be able to extend the bedrooms on the bottom floor to accommodate more children and also begin finishing the second floor. Upstairs we will have a library/schoolroom (as we home school all the children), an office, a small apartment for those that wish to come and help and more bedrooms and bathrooms.

The children are doing very well. Their schoolwork just gets better and better. It is so beautiful to watch a child learn to read. The older children are learning to add and subtract and just beginning multiplication and the younger with colors, shapes, letters and numbers.

Please pray that God would guide all of our decisions, that he would send the children He wants to be here and that we would have the wisdom, compassion, and lots and lots of love to care for them. Please remember all the children in your prayers as they have all come from very difficult situations but we know that they can overcome with Christ.

EIRENE MINISTRY JANUARY 2010 MONTHLY REPORT EDUCATION CENTER

Seven new children started school in January taking the place of seven children who left. We continue with a rather large waiting list for the school as there is such a demand for schooling and not nearly enough space in the schools. We want to make sure that we do not compromise our desire for small classrooms and special attention for each of the children we have in our education center.
Two of our teachers, Lupita and Cati, started their courses for certification with INEA. This is a government institution that will allow us to test the children once they have finished sixth grade and give them their diploma as if they went through a government school.
Lupita taught the sixth training course this year for the other teachers. The course this month focused on administration. These opportunities for the teachers of teaching their peers have really benefited them in understanding the various themes and have helped them gain confidence in speaking with groups of other adults.
Through December, the number of students in the Eirene Education Center is:

TRI-MONTHLY REPORT 2009 (OCTOBER, NOVEMBER, DECEMBER) DENTAL CLINIC AND SEWING CLASSES

For the last trimester of 2009, things remained pretty consistent in regards to the dental clinic with no major changes to report. Because of this, the report has been done to include three months instead of one.

I have begun to work with the new dental equipment, sent by various individuals from Evergreen PCA, in Oregon, and it has been a wonderful blessing to the clinic. Patients are able to be cleaned and attended to much quicker with better hygiene as well.

The Orthodontics classes have finally come to a close, finishing in the month of November. The only thing part that remains is to wait for the graduation that will take place in January. This will open the doors for us to increase the amount of people we are able to help, especially since we will be the only orthodontics clinic in Santa Ana.

With the termination of classes, I am going to be returning to normal hours at the clinic from Monday through Friday from 10 am through 2 pm, and special appointments.

The ladies in the sewing classes finished out the year very content, as did I. Some of the ladies have begun to earn some Money with the newfound skills in addition to being able to make clothes for their own families. The blessing is that they are able to earn this money without leaving their homes in search of work and without leaving their children unattended.

I am also very happy to say that this month, January, I have now served at Eirene for 8 years. During this time, I have received many blessings from God He has permitted me to get to know many people in the community, from other parts of Mexico, the United States and Canada. Along with them, I have had the privilege of sharing many great moments and count on the friendship of many.

DECEMBER 2009 MONTHLY REPORT EIRENE EDUCATION CENTER

We held our annual Christmas program highlighting the participation of the students in grades 1-4 in a small drama. The three children that were selected for their excellence and participation in “I Live and Play without Violence” were honored as well as a student from each grade who finished with the best grade average and the student with the best behavior for the semester. The parents that made the effort to attend all three of the training classes were also recognized for their efforts. The program consisted of children singing various Christmas hymns and the drama spoke to the parents about a gift being a gift, it is not something you need to pay for, not something to take lightly, and not something you need to repay.
Students from The Lincoln school helped put on a Christmas party for the children with games, food, face painting and other fun activities.
Meetings were held with parents on December 18th to give out the grades for the first grading period and talk with them about how they can encourage their child and help them in areas they may be struggling in.
The fifth training course was taught to the teachers with the theme being, The Three Aspects of a Woman. Tere, the teacher for Four Year olds and Kindergarten led the class and discussion.

November 2009 Monthly Report Eirene Education Center

We finished our course in “I Play and Live without Violence” and the students completed their artwork, from which three winners were selected. These students will receive recognition at the Christmas program for their excellence.
The teachers have put together their goals for the year so that they know what they are aiming for and what to expect in their reviews.
We practiced for the Christmas program that will be presented on December 17th to the parents.
The fourth training class for teachers was presented to the teachers. The theme this month was on “Excellence” with Flora leading the class and discussion.
Two of the three training classes for parents were presented on consecutive Friday nights. The third class will be presented after the benefit concert.
Communication is improving with the personnel in being able to identify needs and sharing about how to improve their teaching.
Two teachers are working to be certified by the INEA system. Once certified, they will be able to monitor and give exams for the children once they reach sixth grade in order to receive their state-certified diploma.
Three new students were added this month, taking the place of the three students that had to leave.
Through November, the number of students in the Eirene Education Center is:

October 2009 Monthly Report Eirene Education Center

We began a program called “I Play and Live Without Violence” for all of the children in the education center. The object of this is to promote among the children a different lifestyle than what they have grown up with and show them that violence has no part in any area of their life.

We implemented a mural system in order to showcase some of the children’s work to the parents so they can see what is being learned and to reward the children that are doing well by displaying their work. .

On October 30 th, we held the third part of our teacher’s training course for this school year. The theme was “Character,” and Cati, our first and second grade teacher, taught the other teachers on this theme.

We are preparing for our Parent Training classes which will be held in two weeks during November and in a week during December. These classes are to aid the parents in their understanding of the education center’s philosophy of the parent being responsible for the education of their child and working with them on how to have a healthy family environment for their child to grow up in.

Each week, meetings are held with each teacher to talk through situations that they have faced during the week and help them evaluate their response and how to grow and learn from them.

We are working toward the certification of two teachers in the government system of INEA so that our students will be able to take a test once they finish sixth grade and receive a government issued diploma for their studies.

We continue to work with our three teacher’s aides to help them understand the system of learning and help them learn more about becoming a teacher themselves.

Dental Clinic/Sewing Classes Report September 2009

Dental Clinic

This month there were not many special cases in the dental clinic. The amount of patients seen has begun to increase again after all of the special projects done in August. One special event from September was that the children from the kindergarten of the education center visited the clinic. I was able to talk with them about dental hygiene and showed them the different equipment that is used to help them if they were to come.

I am going into the final period of my studies in Orthodontics. I am working towards taking my final exams during the third week of October.

Two new patients started to be seen this past month. They are two young girls from the community and I will be working with them for the next two years.

Things were a little irregular with the sewing classes, but we were still able to hold nine classes during the month. The students learned to make bibs and a blouse. After this month, we will have a formal textbook that we will be working out of. There will be many benefits of using this textbook as it will be a great guide to work through now and a great tool for the ladies to reference in the future.
